Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Specialized Turbo Levo R. In summary, this is what cyclists think. Updated Mar 09, 2026 by Jordan Grimes.

15 reasons to buy

  • The Specialized Turbo Levo R is available in an above-average six sizes and three builds: Comp, Expert, and S-Works.
  • Testers relish the bike’s speed, saying it accelerates quickly and carries momentum well.
  • Experts call the Levo R a superb climber thanks to the powerful, precise assistance, abundant traction, and effective geo.
  • The Levo R is easy to maneuver up tight, technical climbs, according to testers.
  • Experts agree the Levo R excels on fast, flowy tracks and “jumpy” trails, saying it responds well to pumping through rolling terrain, and it’s enthusiastic to jump.
  • Reviewers say the bike feels stable at high speed and composed when ploughing through chunky terrain.
  • Experts feel the Levo R outperforms its travel, handling well on demanding technical descents.
  • Testers love how the FOX Genie shock provides the sensitivity expected of a longer-travel bike.
  • One reviewer gets 43 miles and 5500 feet of elevation gain using Trail mode.
  • When pedaling hard on a steep climb, the motor’s Dynamic MicroTune mode delivers full support instantly without changing modes.
  • The Specialized 3.1 motor provides excellent traction control.
  • The S-Works build’s 12A charger charges from 0 to 80 percent in under one hour.
  • Specialized’s app allows users to fine-tune motor performance.
  • The Turbo Levo R has two flip-chips for adjusting geometry, and it comes with a suspension tuning kit, including a headset cup.
  • This bike has down tube storage and a multitool hidden in the fork steerer.

7 reasons not to buy

  • Two experts say the Levo R’s descending performance is negatively affected by the heavy battery and poor weight distribution, causing understeering.
  • One tester experiences “several punctures” on the lightweight Specialized Purgatory tires. Others recommend stickier, burlier tires.
  • The Turbo Levo R is less agile than expected for a 130mm-travel MTB, according to one expert.
  • The S-Works build’s one-piece stem and bar restricts fit adjustments.
  • A 154lb tester finds the SRAM Motive Ultimate brakes underpowered on long descents.
  • Reviewers bemoan the S-Works build’s “eye-gouging” price tag.
  • Reviewers dislike the aesthetic of the chunky down tube.

Bottom line

Specialized’s Turbo Levo R is an uncommon e-MTB. It combines a full-power, high-capacity (840Wh) e-bike system with a weight-conscious build and shorter travel than typical full-fat e-MTBs. This combination earns praise from most experts who relish the agility and lively handling, saying the Levo R outperforms its travel on descents, and it climbs exceptionally. On the other hand, some think that, given the bike is still relatively heavy, Specialized has missed the mark with this design, adding that the 840Wh battery negatively impacts handling. Thankfully, a more appropriately specced 600Wh version, tested by some reviewers, should be available in the future.

2026 Specialized Levo R Review | the New Levo R Is Lighter & Sportier, but It Left Us Scratching Our Heads

Indeed, there is potential here for a really engaging e-MTB, but as it stands, the Levo R feels somewhat half-baked. Is it a sign that legacy brands like Specialized are on the backfoot following the Amflow incursion? Quite possibly.

The 2026 Specialized Levo R Is in a Category of Its Own

For a fairly large portion of the e-MTB market, the Levo R might just be the ticket. So far, it feels like a more solved evolution of the Levo 4, offering a fun ride and plenty of speed.

Specialized Levo R Bike Review

Specialized’s Levo R… delivers a combination of full-sized e-bike power and range with quick, snappy, responsive handling and an excellent ride feel that I find super compelling. And, if you want to make it slacker, longer, and lower, well, it’s got all the adjustments you’d want.

The Specialized Turbo Levo R Is a Rally Car in a Monster Truck World
