Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Vintage Electric Bikes Roadster. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

9 reasons to buy

  • Experts agree the Vintage Electric Bikes Roadster is "gorgeous."
  • Multiple testers highlight the quiet motor operation.
  • Reviewers praise the "exhilarating" throttle acceleration and hill climbing performance.
  • An expert likes that the 72V Roadster "doesn't feel like a motorcycle," describing it as "more fun and less lethal."
  • Reviewers relish the 72V Roadster's "astonishing" power in Race mode.
  • Experts enjoy the comfortable ride, though one finds the seat slightly too low.
  • One reviewer describes the Roadster as a "wet dream" for motorsports enthusiasts who want to get into e-bikes.
  • The "great" hydraulic disc brakes work well in testing.
  • The included lights are automatic. Experts especially love the big, "proper" headlight.

15 reasons not to buy

  • The Roadster is very expensive. One expert notes that it's possible to buy a "very decent, real motorcycle for that money."
  • At 86lb and 74.75" long, the Roadster is heavy and bulky.
  • The battery isn't removable, meaning charging is less convenient.
  • A tester records a real-world range of around 30 miles.
  • The Roadster only comes in one size with a high 29.5" standover height.
  • The "basic" display disappoints reviewers.
  • Testers find the single-speed Roadster difficult to pedal and "painful" to ride without assistance.
  • Inexperienced riders should be cautious of the strong acceleration, especially in corners.
  • One tester says there's a half-second lag before power cuts out after stopping pedaling.
  • The Race mode key that unlocks 26mph (48V) or 40mph (72V) max speeds costs extra.
  • In Race mode, it's illegal to ride the 72V Roadster on public roads and trails.
  • Two experts complain that the kickstand blocks the cranks when deployed.
  • The chrome kickstand and pedals detract from the aesthetic, in one reviewer's opinion.
  • The "firm" seat and lack of rear suspension can be uncomfortable on rough pavement.
  • One reviewer receives a test bike with a defective rear wheel.

Bottom line

Vintage Electric Bikes' Roadster is a retro motorcycle-style e-bike available in 48V and 72V builds. Both builds come with 1123Wh batteries and ship as Class 2. Unlocking the top speeds of 26mph (48V) and 40mph (72V) costs extra. The Roadster's "gorgeous" design and aesthetic appeal seem to be the justifications for its high price, which exceeds that of many real motorbikes. The components generally work well, testers highlighting the "exhilarating" power, climbing performance, and comfort on smooth pavement. However, limited range and rider fit, heavy weight, lagging assistance, and a non-removable battery, among other niggles, may diminish the Roadster's appeal.

Vintage Electric Roadster Review

The performance is super high and is complimented well by the weight, safety, and features that carry it well. Not to mention, the design aesthetic makes it similar to a work of art.

Review: Vintage Electric Roadster

The real problem here is the price. It’s a bespoke bike made from ultra-premium components, but it’s totally out of reach for most people. You can get a very decent, real motorcycle for that money, or spend far less on plenty of other good electric bikes.

What Do You Get When You Cross an E-Bike With a Supercar?

Ultimately, you’re paying for intangibles like aesthetics, more power than you need most of the time, and a really enjoyable ride. If those intangibles are worth it to you, the Roadster presents a compelling package. If they don’t hold any appeal, you’ll probably wonder why anyone would spend the money.
