Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Segway Xafari. In summary, this is what cyclists think. Published Sep 24, 2025 by Reda Ashour.

11 reasons to buy

  • Reviewers find the riding position and overall ride quality comfortable.
  • Testers say the bike feels stable and planted.
  • The responsive, smooth, and powerful motor assistance impresses reviewers.
  • Experts relish the Xafari’s climbing performance, with the motor automatically providing extra power upon sensing an incline.
  • The Xafari has an angle-adjustable stem for customizing fit.
  • Testers find the 26” x 3” all-terrain tires provide good traction over pavement and light off-road surfaces.
  • Reviewers are pleased with the stopping power from the Tektro two-piston hydraulic disc brakes.
  • One tester gets 38.2 miles and almost 2,000 feet of elevation using only the throttle.
  • The Xafari's Class 2 and 3 modes comply fully with US e-bike laws.
  • The Xafari comes with fenders, lights, a rear rack rated for 55lb, a USB charge port, and mounts for a front basket.
  • The Xafari has multiple security features and a Bluetooth app for navigation, ride tracking, and updates.

12 reasons not to buy

  • At 92.5lb, the Xafari is difficult to transport, lift, and maneuver while riding.
  • Two test bikes experience random drops in power while using the throttle. One is immediately replaced by Segway.
  • Class 3 mode is not accessible in certain states, such as California.
  • The throttle deactivates when the bike is set to Class 3 mode.
  • Removing the battery requires taking off the cover and unplugging it first.
  • The Xafari uses many proprietary parts, complicating maintenance and replacements.
  • The stated height range is 5’1” to 6’2”, but a 5’3” tester finds the bike too large, and a 6” tester finds it too small.
  • Adjusting the coil shock requires disassembling the lower mount.
  • The cabling in the front blocks the headlight.
  • Accessing settings requires downloading an app and starting an account.
  • The security and tech features drain the Xafari's battery while it's off.
  • Testers say the four-way-scroll control isn't intuitive.

Bottom line

The Segway Xafari is a Class 2 or 3-compliant commuter e-bike with full suspension and 3" tires. It's very heavy, but its powerful motor, smooth assist, long battery range, and effective brakes earn praise. Unfortunately, the overbuilt full-suspension system offers minimal adjustment and will make servicing a challenge. The bike is packed with tech and security features, but testers feel these make for a complex user experience, and some features are buggy. All in all, opinions are split on the Xafari's value.

Segway Xafari Review

We loved how comfortable this bike was, and while the user interface took a little getting used to, the additional features were great. When you consider the bike’s price, it’s an exceptional value and absolutely gets our recommendation.

I Tried Segway’s Sci-Fi E-Bike and Things Got Weird Fast

The Segway Xafari has looks, speed, range, and smarts going for it. But those aspects bely an incredibly heavy, over-engineered frame, some otherwise basic components, and momentarily exciting full suspension that fails to live up to expectations.

This Segway Xafari Might Be the Coolest E-Bike!

I want [the seatpost] to be at least two inches taller. It has a lot of torque. The torque sensor, when you just engage the pedals, it just takes off and engages instantly.
