Bottom line
This is a 2020 reproduction of Schwinn’s iconic 1968-1973 classic. Collectors and owners say that it is a more faithful and higher-quality repop (reproduction) than the re-releases of the ‘90s and 2000s. Although it didn’t quite match the resilience and finish of the 1968 model, owners of the U.S.A.-made original were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the new Krate. It was sometimes bought by nostalgic grandparents to keep in waiting for growing grandchildren. Sometimes, it was simply bought by collectors. All of this nostalgia overlooks the fact that the 2020 Krate rides super-smooth with an old-school, rear-suspension sissy-bar. It’s a fun bike for both kids and adults.
