7 reasons not to buy

  • The L885 weighs a hefty 73lb.
  • On climbs, a significant decrease in power was noted.
  • The L885’s gearing is somewhat low, leading to spinning in higher gears.
  • Some testers wanted suspension, to help bear the weight of cargo and kids.
  • The L885’s return policy does not allow the e-bike to be used in any way.
  • A tester finds the bike’s kickstand difficult to deploy.
  • The L885’s display screen and buttons are small.

Bottom line

The Flyer L885 is a well-thought-out, commuter-ready Class 2 cargo e-bike, suited to families and those seeking to replace the duties of a car. In using a smaller 20” rear wheel to lower the bike’s center of gravity and increase stability, the L885 takes inspiration from higher-end bikes, like the Yuba Spicy Curry. Fat tires also contribute to this ‘plantedness’. The L885 is available in three sizes, unlike many e-bikes in this price range. Fenders and lights are included. Proprietary accessories mean the L885 is ready to carry younger kids in seats, older kids on a bench seat or general cargo. The bike’s total payload is 400lb.

Flyer Cargo Family E-Bike Review

I quickly racked up miles zipping past lines of traffic. I thought the bike looked pretty sleek. My initial impression was that this Radio Flyer e-bike was heavy. One of the more affordable e-bikes. Be mindful of the return policy.
