- One tester finds the acceleration overly aggressive in the stock PAS settings.
- The 1,000W motor and ability to exceed 28mph don't comply with e-bike laws.
- The Deer 2.0 gets an extra gear and a larger chainring but has the same narrow 13-28t cassette as the original Deer.
- This is a very heavy electric bike in both the 20” and 26” configurations.
- The 20” Deer 2.0’s 31.9” minimum seat height is likely to be too high for riders at the low end of the 4’10” to 6’2” height range.
- Magicycle customer support has a poor reputation among buyers, who complain of lengthy or unfulfilled warranty claims.
Bottom line
With the Deer 2.0, Magicycle has made a few minor changes to its highly regarded original Deer, including more gears, switchable torque and cadence sensors, higher nominal motor power, and a thumb throttle to accommodate the trigger shifter. The comfortable full-suspension platform and 4” Kenda Krusade tires are suited to pavement and light off-road trails. Inexperienced riders may find the strong acceleration overwhelming, but thankfully, this is customizable. With a price that’s higher than many competing e-bikes, the exaggerated height range and poor customer support are disappointing, as this appears to be a solid, well-equipped fat-tire e-bike.Expert Reviews
