BikeRide finds and shows you the best prices of the bikes you want to buy. Prices constantly change and it’s impossible to compare them all yourself.
We search for prices on over 120 bike retailers to guarantee that we find the lowest prices – to save you time and money.
It’s a promise we stand behind: If you find a lower price on a bike elsewhere, we will sell it to you for 10% less. For example, if you find a bike for $480 that we have listed at $500, we will offer you to buy it for $432 through BikeRide. The bike must be the same color and size, sold in the US and not include the use of a coupon.
If you find a lower price, email us at [email protected] with documentation of the price. We’re committed to making sure that the cost of a bike does not keep you from cycling!

Summary of Reviews
We have read all expert and user reviews on the Thule Shield. In summary, this is what cyclists think. Updated Mar 23, 2026 by Rachel Rushing.
6 reasons to buy
- Experts and owners feel the Shield bags are well-constructed.
- Most say the bags are easy to attach and remove from racks.
- In testing, the Shield successfully keeps contents dry from heavy, prolonged rain.
- Small items are easy to organize thanks to internal pockets and pouches, and the 22L version has a front zippered pocket.
- The Shield comes with a shoulder strap for off-bike carrying.
- Thule provides a lifetime warranty for the Shield.
4 reasons not to buy
- Some owners and a tester complain of the bags detaching over rough terrain, especially when lightly loaded. However, it’s unclear if this is due to improper installation.
- After two years, a buyer says the mounting system and handle are “worn out”. A reviewer tests the bags for 2,100 miles of touring and finds that the material scratches easily.
- The Shield’s fixed-length closure straps struggle to secure bulky loads, frustrating reviewers and owners.
- Some note that the material is initially stiff and difficult to roll, though it becomes more flexible over time.
Bottom line
The Thule Shield panniers, available in 13L, 22L, and 25L sizes, offer excellent waterproofing and intuitive internal organization. They fit 8mm–16mm rack tubing. Attaching and detaching is easy for most; however, owners report bags detaching over rough terrain. The fixed-length strap closure system also frustrates, especially when packing bulky items. While the Thule Shield is a solid option with clever features and a lifetime warranty, those prioritizing rugged durability for heavy-duty touring may want a more dependable alternative like ORTLIEB's panniers.Expert Reviews
