Bike Size Charts

BikeRide finds and shows you the best prices of the bikes you want to buy. Prices constantly change and it’s impossible to compare them all yourself.

We search for prices on over 120 bike retailers to guarantee that we find the lowest prices – to save you time and money.

It’s a promise we stand behind: If you find a lower price on a bike elsewhere, we will sell it to you for 10% less. For example, if you find a bike for $480 that we have listed at $500, we will offer you to buy it for $432 through BikeRide. The bike must be the same color and size, sold in the US and not include the use of a coupon.

If you find a lower price, email us at [email protected] with documentation of the price. We’re committed to making sure that the cost of a bike does not keep you from cycling!

Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Schwinn Kempo. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

13 reasons to buy

  • Aluminum frames were delightfuly light.
  • Shimano ‘EZ fire’ shifters received quite a few plaudits.
  • Value was considered to be similar to more expensive department store bikes.
  • For some buyers, assembly was simple and quick.
  • Kempos were described as ‘lookin’ good’, expensive and ‘sexy’.
  • Solidity was an oft-lauded feature of the Kempo.
  • A shorter, 5’2” person was comfortable on the ladies’ Kempo.
  • One owner said instructions for tuning disc brakes were easy to follow.
  • Packaging was said to be secure and plentiful.
  • Ride quality was often described in terms of ‘smoothness’ and speed.
  • The entry-level Shimano Tourney drivetrain generally shifted well.
  • Seatpost and wheels were quick-release, unlike many other cheap bikes.
  • Geometry was a compromise between an upright and aggressive riding stance.

8 reasons not to buy

  • This saddle was notoriously uncomfortable, making one owner “numb down there”.
  • Some owners shared photos of their Kempo’s components rusting at a rapid rate.
  • A few buyers said that they received instructions for a different kind of bike.
  • The moderately aggressive riding position didn’t suit some casual riders.
  • Tires were weak, prone to punctures and hastily replaced by many owners.
  • After a month, a bottom-bracket came loose and disassembled for one owner.
  • Another bottom bracket seized after 14 days.
  • In some instances, pedals threaded out after two weeks to a month, possibly due to user error?

Bottom line

The Kempo was generally received very well for a big-box bike. With an aluminum frame, modern hybrid geometry and an entry-level Shimano Tourney drivetrain, buyers felt that it was of similar quality to many department store bikes that cost a coupla hundred more. Don’t be mistaken, components were recognized as ‘mid-range’, but were usually reliable. There were come instances where troubles were encountered, but these issues could usually be addressed by paying to have the bike professionally tuned and assembled. A word to the wise; the Kempo appears to be identical to the Schwinn Circuit, which is sold for a significantly higher price. An acceptable budget buy for casual commuters.

Schwinn Kempo

In my opinion I think this bike is overlooked… I think Schwinn warranty their frame, like, forever… Very nice lookin’ bike… the bike was about $500 with all the upgrades I’ve done.

I am sure professional riders would have a lot to say negative about this bike. I ride casually, with my family and know very little. From this perspective, this bike is my favorite bike I’ve ever owned… Go get it.
