Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Hiboy C1. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

8 reasons to buy

  • Experts appreciate the ability to maintain 20mph over flat ground using the throttle.
  • The mechanical disc brakes provide good stopping power in testing.
  • Reviewers enjoy the relaxed, upright seating position.
  • Experts say the suspension fork and sprung saddle help smooth out bumpy pavement.
  • Assembling the C1 takes reviewers less than 15 minutes.
  • Experts say steep hills are manageable with max pedal assist.
  • Hiboy’s companion app syncs to the display and allows customization of pedal assist and remote locking.
  • The Hiboy C1 comes with fenders and lights with brake activation.

13 reasons not to buy

  • A reviewer cannot fit the C1 (50.79” × 15.87” × 29.53”) into the trunk of a sedan.
  • At 50lb, the C1 is heavy for an e-bike with 14" wheels.
  • An expert says assistance takes three to four pedal revolutions to kick in.
  • Handlebar height is not adjustable.
  • Testers at the high end of the height range (4’9” to 5’11”) feel the bike is too small.
  • A 5’5” reviewer finds the seatpost too short.
  • The single-speed gearing means pedaling at speeds above 12mph isn't comfortable.
  • Testers find the C1 uncomfortable, saying it's only suitable for short rides.
  • Reviewers complain the small kickstand doesn't support the bike well.
  • The 230lb payload capacity is limiting.
  • Testers say the 14” wheels and narrow bars make for nervous handling at high speeds.
  • Reviewers are disappointed by the slow 1.5A charger.
  • Finding replacement tires for the 14” wheels may be a challenge.

Bottom line

The Hiboy C1 is a mini e-bike with 14" wheels, a 350W motor, and a 281Wh battery. The C1 earns praise for its strong brakes, nimble handling, decent climbing performance, and ability to maintain 20mph on flats. However, the C1 feels unstable at high speeds, and the height range seems exaggerated, meaning the bike is off-limits to taller riders. Other gripes include the lagging pedal assist, ghost pedaling above 12mph, and slow charging. Despite these issues, the C1 is considered good value as a last-mile commuter.
