Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Ride1UP REVV 1 DRT. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

9 reasons to buy

  • Riders can quickly switch between Class 2, Class 3, and ‘Off-Road’ modes via the display. In its unrestricted mode, the bike can only be used on private property.
  • With the bike in Off-Road mode, testers reach speeds up to 34mph using the throttle on flat pavement.
  • Reviewers enjoy the upright riding position and say the suspension, especially at the rear, provides a very comfortable ride on pavement and dirt trails.
  • The four-piston hydraulic disc brakes and 203mm rotors demonstrate great stopping power in testing.
  • An expert praises the bright LED lights. The taillight has brake activation, and the headlight has multiple beam modes.
  • Testers appreciate the relatively gentle throttle acceleration in Class 2 and Class 3 modes. Boost mode provides maximum torque, for faster acceleration.
  • Ride1UP provides a 4A fast charger for a five-hour charge time.
  • The display has a USB port for charging devices.
  • Experts agree the REVV 1 DRT looks great.

11 reasons not to buy

  • Two reviewers report the controller overheating after short, steep climbs. This reduces power, cutting the max speed to roughly 10mph.
  • All experts say pedaling for extended periods is uncomfortable and impractical.
  • Because full power is always available, it is difficult to modulate speeds using the throttle.
  • A tester receives a bike with a faulty fork that makes a “terrible” sound when topping out its travel.
  • This bike weighs 94lb and measures 78” long, making it extremely difficult to maneuver unpowered, lift, or transport.
  • The REVV 1 DRT is very tall, with a 34” standover height. This will make mounting a challenge for shorter riders.
  • Experts say the 4" Innova tires lack the grip needed for technical off-roading and struggle to hold grip when cornering. The bikes easily slides out on loose sand in testing.
  • The “tiny” fenders are ineffective at blocking dirt and debris.
  • Battery range disappoints, especially compared to the regular REVV 1 FS. Reviewers get around 26 miles of throttle-only riding on primarily flat routes.
  • The bike’s heavy weight makes assembly a two-person job.
  • Reading the display is difficult in direct sunlight.

Bottom line

The REVV 1 DRT is the off-road member of Ride1UP’s motorcycle-style model family. Changes for this version include a longer frame, more suspension travel, knobby tires, and spoked wheels. Testers praise the fast acceleration in Boost mode, plush rear suspension, powerful brakes, and thrilling top speed. The main concern is a controller that easily overheats, as recorded by two testers following short hill climbs. Additionally, the tires lack grip, battery range is poor, and speed is hard to control using the throttle in Off-Road mode. While ride reviews are positive, the low-quality controller and underwhelming off-road performance should give buyers pause.
