Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the ORTLIEB Fork-Pack. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

9 reasons to buy

  • The Fork-Pack is available in two materials and sizes: standard with nylon (4.1L or 5.8L) or Plus with Cordura (5.8L).
  • Long-term testers and owners deem both materials durable.
  • The Quick-Lock S (QLS) mount is easy to install on forks with eyelets.
  • ORTLIEB offers mounting solutions for a range of rigid and suspension forks.
  • An adaptor is available to change the bag's angle to improve wheel clearance.
  • Attaching and removing the bag is quick and easy thanks to ORTLIEB’s QLS mounting system.
  • Testing shows that both materials are fully waterproof.
  • Testers and owners say the bag stays secure over rough terrain.
  • The wide opening gives easy access to the contents.

4 reasons not to buy

  • The mount cannot be used on carbon or tapered forks that don't have mounting eyelets.
  • Installing the metal bands on forks without eyelets is fiddly and requires extra tools. The bands are also single-use.
  • An expert and numerous owners note that the Hex screw heads strip easily.
  • Some testers say the screws are too short for deep-set eyelets, and one mount falls off due to poor thread engagement.

Bottom line

The ORTLIEB Fork-Pack is a quick-release bag available in three variations: standard (nylon, 4.1L or 5.8L) and Plus (Cordura, 5.8L). Both use a roll-top closure and support 6.6lb. Mounting bands are included for forks without eyelets, but tapered and carbon forks require at least one eyelet to be compatible. Attaching the mount to forks without eyelets is fiddly, the screw heads strip easily, and for some forks, the screws are too short. However, once installed, the pack is secure and easy to attach and remove. Overall, ORTLIEB's Fork-Pack comes highly recommended.

ORTLIEB 4.1L Fork-Pack: Long-Term Review

I feel like these fork bags exist in this really cool intermediate spot where they’re easy to pack, but they’re still pretty minimal. They sit tight to the bike, and you don’t even realize they’re there.

First Look: ORTLIEB Fork-Pack Offers 4.1 or 5.8 Liters of Easy On/off Packability

I think the size choices are good for something that attaches to the fork of a bicycle… I don’t think I would like the 5.8-liter size. The 4.1-liter size seems the perfect size for my usage.

ORTLIEB Fork-Pack Plus: Bicycle Bag Review [Dutch]

With other bags, we constantly experienced condensation on the inside, and after riding soaked in the rain, our gear ultimately became wet and clammy. That’s not the case with these Fork-Packs.
