Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the TurboAnt Thunder T1. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

13 reasons to buy

  • Very wide 4” tires provide stability and cushioning while allowing the Thunder T1 to be ridden on or off-road.
  • By reports, the Thunder T1 can achieve a 60-mile range with combined pedaling and throttle.
  • One tester had the Thunder T1 rolling for 30 miles with throttle-only on a single charge.
  • Name brand parts provide reassurance on the Thunder T1’s Shimano drivetrain and Tektro brakes.
  • The Thunder T1’s RST fork irons out imperfections on roads and hardpack dirt.
  • The Thunder T1 has a throttle kill-switch to prevent accidental acceleration.
  • A twist throttle can be mashed for pedal-free acceleration on the Thunder T1.
  • The Thunder T1’s battery is removable for off-bike recharging and security.
  • The Thunder T1 is fitted with front & rear LED Lights with a purported night-time illumination range of 16.4 feet.
  • Owners found the Thunder T1 quick and easy to assemble with the provided tools.
  • TurboAnt says the Thunder T1 arrives at your door with 90% of assembly already done.
  • Reviewers say the Thunder T1 is geared appropriately for climbing steep hills.
  • The Thunder T1 has an adjustable stem, allowing riders of different sizes to customize their ride position.

5 reasons not to buy

  • Testers and reviewers experienced serious accuracy issues with the battery level indicator and speedometer on the Thunder T1.
  • At 73 pounds, the Thunder T1 is very heavy. Reviewers had to remove the battery to lift it.
  • Tektro Aries mechanical brakes struggled to stop the heavy Thunder T1 on steep descents.
  • Reviewers note that the Thunder T1 is very large and awkward to store in a small living area.
  • Test riders sought a harder gear when riding the Thunder T1 on fast flats or descents.

Bottom line

TurboAnt is a new entrant into the e-bike sector. The Thunder T1 is their fat-tire do-everything model for mattress-like on-road cruising or hardpack off-road shenanigans. It’s available in one size for riders 5’3″ to 6’4″, though adult male reviewers found the bike tall. On their website, TurboAnt claims this is a Class 3 bike, reaching a top speed of 28mph. Owners and reviewers reported it topping out at a Class 2 limited 20mph? Bumps are ironed out by an RST suspension fork, featuring adjustment and lockout. The Thunder T1’s throttle kill-switch is a great safety feature, especially when mounting and dismounting the bike. It prevents accidental lurching into traffic at high speed. More than one reviewer experienced seriously inaccurate speedometer and battery-level readings. Overall, the Thunder T1 is a very solid e-bike that still has some bumps to iron out. It ain’t pricey, though.

TurboAnt Thunder T1 Fat-Tire Electric Bike Review – Unbeatable for the Price

A well-built e-bike at an affordable price… This is undoubtedly the most comfortable bike I’ve used in my entire life… I no longer feel a pain in my butt at the end of each ride.

TurboAnt Thunder T1 Electric Bike Review

The Thunder T1’s smooth and comfortable performance, all-terrain capability, and battery flexibility already put it at the top of the fat-tire bike list, and the extra thought that is put into a throttle lock definitely speaks in its favor. Unfortunately, its buggy speedometer and even buggier battery meter call into question the quality assurance testing that is performed on such a critical aspect of a product that partially runs on battery power.

TurboAnt Thunder T1 Review 2021

The T1’s design makes gravel roads seem not so gravelly and on-road riding feel like a magic carpet… I think that TurboAnt is on the right track with their bike. I still think they have a little ways to go before their bike is completely refined — things like the inaccurate speed and battery readout should be fixed — but aside from that, it’s a solid electric fat bike.

There Is a Fat Bike Here. | Turboant T1 |

This is a big bike. It’s tall, taller than most bikes I would usually ride… It’s so fun. It’s like right on the edge of owning an electric dirtbike or a s****y motorcycle… I really hope the battery doesn’t die. This thing would suck to have to pedal back… It died…it’s so heavy, it’s very heavy.

My New E-Bike! // TurboAnt Thunder T1 Review

Nice bike. Good commuter. Nothing too fancy but also everything you could need. I like the removable battery… Good throttle. Brakes are decent. Suspension’s decent… Street-legal. Nice ‘n’ fast. You don’t have to pedal, don’t burn any calories.

This Changes Everything. TurboAnt Thunder T1 E-bike Review & Specs

TurboAnt did send me this bike for free… I am very impressed with this bike. I am impressed with the torque and the acceleration of the bike… I love that I can get it up to 20mph on a paved road… I love the pedal-assist… If you are a serious prepper and you want to prepare for an emergency situation I think having a rugged electric bike like this could be a great addition to your emergency preps.

Turboant Thunder T1

I always thought eBikes were for the lazy…but I discovered I can turn off the motor and get even more of a workout with higher heart rates riding this 73-pound behemoth around town rather than my usual ultralight bike… The TurboAnt is for cruising and having social fun, not for nimble handling.
