Küat’s Piston Pro X may well be the best bike rack that money can buy. But oh, the skrilla you will need! It can handle weighty e-bikes, at up to 67 lb each. Arms open via pistons, with one-handed button operation. These pistons are Kashima-coated, for smooth operation, weather-resistance and longevity. This rack features its own turn-signals and brake lighting. Hitch and cable locks are included. As one reviewer put it, this rack “has transformed a task that usually feels like a necessary pain in the ass, into a pleasurable experience...”

In the early days of mountain biking, all racks were shit. Every touchpoint and moving part on the Küat Piston Pro X operates with incredible smoothness and a pleasingly positive and distinct engagement. It’s elegantly designed. The tricky bit is that this is going to cost you.

If I’m really gonna pull bikes, if I’m gonna go long distances, the Küat Piston Pro is better. Bikes are easier to get on and off, they’re probably more secure at speed, and you’re not putting pressure on your doors. Finally, aerodynamics are better, probably.

One-Upping 1Up… A lot of money to plunk down on a hitch rack, but it’s clear that it’s a notch above the rest. But, it’s still not totally perfect… When driving on a bumpy road, I can hear the knocking. It’s not totally silent. It seems like it’s built to last a really long time.

The Piston Pro X fits bikes with wheels from 18” to 29”, up to 5-inch tires, and a wheelbase up to 53 inches. It fits mountain bikes, road bikes, gravel bikes, and fat bikes equally well. If you ride a high-end bike or drive a nice car and you care about the safety and good looks of both, the cost is worth it.
