Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Breezer Thunder. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

10 reasons to buy

  • The Thunder is bristling with mounts for bags, racks, fenders, and accessories.
  • Experts are pleased with the progressive and balanced geometry, which places the rider centrally.
  • Testers say climbing is efficient, thanks to the rigid frame, wide range of gears, and grippy tires.
  • Reviewers enjoy the descents on moderate singletrack trails, feeling planted and secure.
  • The frame can accommodate suspension forks with up to 100mm of travel.
  • Testers find the wide 780mm handlebars and well-proportioned cockpit provide control and stability.
  • The 29” x 2.5” WTB Vigilante TCS Light tires provide cushion and great traction, according to experts.
  • Reviewers compliment the Thunder’s classic styling.
  • The Thunder has clearance for tires up to 2.8”.
  • Breezer provides a lifetime warranty on the frame and fork for the registered original owner.

5 reasons not to buy

  • Testers are disappointed with the high weight (34.83lb), which is partly due to the heavy, "dead-feeling" fork, and limits the bike's speed and technical ability.
  • A reviewer complains the frame paint is too easily scratched when the bars hit the top tube and during transport.
  • Though the provision of an anything mount on the drive-side seat stay expands the gear-packing options, it requires judicious use to avoid making the bike unbalanced.
  • An expert feels the slack head angle and high trail cause the bike to wander at low speeds when climbing.
  • One reviewer finds the geometry and burly tires don't suit dirt roads. Owners agree the chunky tires are over-specified for this bike's purpose in life.

Bottom line

Breezer's Thunder is a steel-framed adventure bike with 29” wheels. It boasts a plethora of bikepacking mounts, and can accommodate a 100mm suspension fork and 2.8" tires. Reviewers praise the well-balanced geometry, wide handlebars, and grippy tires, which enhance stability off-road when loaded. On trails, it's efficient uphill and handles moderate descents without a problem. Concerns focus on how the bike's weight and aggressive tires hinder performance. However, the Breezer Thunder is designed for rugged exploration, not speed, and its sturdy frame, decent component specification for the price, and classic looks make it good value for bikepacking adventures.

Breezer Thunder Review: Classic Beauty [German]

The Breezer Thunder would win any beauty contest. Its classic-modern blend creates a refined, touring ride. It’s not easy, though.

Breezer Thunder Steel Mountain Bike Review: Just Ride a Bike?!

Totally analogue cycling. You don’t need a charger for a battery, you don’t need a suspension setup… Reduce to the max?! Too bold? Yes, maybe. But you know what I mean? Just ride a bike!

The Path Less Pedaled

This Bike Brings the Thunder

It does give you a taste of a little bit more kind of progressive mountain bike geometry without spending a ton of money, but it does come at a cost, and that’s primarily weight.

My Narrow Escape From Disaster Rigid Mountain Biking

When you’re riding rigid everything is going to the tires and rims as far as impact. I’m thinking about switching these bars… to also help dampen the trails a little bit. Overall, I love this bike.
