Ride 2 Recovery Golden State Challenge

On October 4, 2009, more than 100 injured veterans will set off down the California coast on the seven- day, 420-mile Ride 2 Recovery Golden State Challenge. Ride 2 Recovery’s second annual Golden State Challenge ride raises funds to support Spinning® and outdoor cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S., and the ride aides the rehabilitation and recovery efforts of the wounded warriors.
Ride 2 Recovery improves the health and wellness of injured veterans through cycling. Cycling, which almost all patients with mental and physical disabilities can participate in, is an important part of the recovery process because it helps to speed up the rehabilitation process.
The ride will begin Sunday, October 4 at the San Francisco VA and end on Saturday, October 10 at the VA in West Los Angeles. The American Legion Riders will provide a motorcycle escort during the event and several Posts will sponsor rest stops and dinners. The ride will also pass several military bases in California.
Also, a number of celebrities, athletes, and politicians will join the Challenge. In addition to Mike Vogel, Adam Baldwin, and Kristy Swanson who will all participate in the ride, Dennis Miller will be a special guest at a fundraising dinner in Solvang, CA on October 8. Other highlights along the route include school visits, welcome parades, and a finale concert at the West Los Angeles VA for veterans, participants, and their families.
