BikeRide finds and shows you the best prices of the bikes you want to buy. Prices constantly change and it’s impossible to compare them all yourself.

We search for prices on over 120 bike retailers to guarantee that we find the lowest prices – to save you time and money.

It’s a promise we stand behind: If you find a lower price on a bike elsewhere, we will sell it to you for 10% less. For example, if you find a bike for $480 that we have listed at $500, we will offer you to buy it for $432 through BikeRide. The bike must be the same color and size, sold in the US and not include the use of a coupon.

If you find a lower price, email us at [email protected] with documentation of the price. We’re committed to making sure that the cost of a bike does not keep you from cycling!

Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Trek CheckOUT. In summary, this is what cyclists think. Published Oct 06, 2025 by Jordan Grimes.

15 reasons to buy

  • Trek offers the CheckOUT in two builds: SL 5 (Shimano GRX, alu rims) and SL 7 AXS (SRAM Force, carbon rims).
  • All experts praise the ride quality, comfortably traversing washboard descents, rocky singletrack, and rough gravel.
  • The “forgiving” handling on descents impresses a tester.
  • A reviewer commends the CheckOUT’s ability to "eat up miles" over varied terrains.
  • Testers love how the "forgiving" handling boosts confidence compared to the rigid gravel bikes they’ve tested.
  • One expert enjoys how this bike’s ample gearing and ability to maintain traction enhance its capacity for steep off-road climbs.
  • A reviewer says the RockShox Judy XL 60mm fork performs well over a variety of gravel tracks.
  • One tester commends the Bontrager GR bar as the most comfortable “hyper-flared” bar they’ve used.
  • The frame and fork have clearance for 2.2”/56mm tires.
  • The Bontrager tires offer good grip on muddy, leaf-strewn singletrack.
  • The CheckOUT frame's wide and versatile range of mounting points accommodates varied bikepacking setups.
  • The down tube mounts can be moved to suit different setups.
  • The CheckOUT has a suspension-optimized rear rack with three-pack mounts and a 22lb load capacity.
  • Cables can be routed through the head tube, down tube, or externally.
  • In partnership with Topo Designs, Trek offers a bespoke frame bag for sizes M-L.

5 reasons not to buy

  • The suspension components and linkage, and the pivoting rear rack's bearings will all require regular servicing, and complicate maintenance, especially on bikepacking trips in remote areas.
  • The CheckOUT’s relatively heavy weight makes its presence known on climbs.
  • One tester says the CheckOUT responds poorly to hard efforts with the suspension locked out.
  • This bike lacks remote suspension lockout.
  • One expert gravel racer thinks the "excessive" 12cm handlebar flare feels weird.

Bottom line

Trek's CheckOUT is the first full-suspension gravel bike to appear since Niner launched the segment with its MCR 9 RDO, which ultimately failed but may simply have been ahead of its time. Early testing is positive, with experts calling the CheckOUT a “delightful” ride that could be the ultimate adventure bike. The CheckOUT comfortably eats up miles at speed over varied terrains, but is overkill for those who mostly ride smooth gravel. Overall, it’s hard to say if, on long-distance adventures, the CheckOUT’s comfort and versatility make up for the weight and inevitable maintenance overhead of its mechanical complexity.

Trek CheckOUT Full Suspension Gravel Bike Review: When the Meme Becomes Fact

On one very familiar fire-road descent, I found I could totally rethink how I approach corners. I didn’t have to take such a wide, conservative sweep to maintain traction. I could brake later, or sometimes during a turn without feeling like I was about to slide out.

Is It Gravel, Mountain, or Something Else? Trek’s CheckOUT Refuses to Be Categorized

The fact that the CheckOUT doesn’t fit into any established or clearly defined category is both its biggest weakness and greatest strength… because it is so versatile it’s hard to say who and what it is for.

Gravel or Mountain Bike? Trek CheckOUT Full Suspension for [Price] — Revolution or Marketing Bluff? [French]

… the price is a little less reasonable… but this is really top of the range for people who love to explore without any limits, and that’s really my feeling and my final conclusion: this is the bike with which you have no limits…
