Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the State Bicycle Co. Titanium All-Road. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

6 reasons to buy

  • Buyers have a choice of wheelset (650b or 700c), drivetrain (mechanical or electronic), and fork (suspension or rigid) at checkout.
  • An expert describes the bike’s handling as out of this world, saying the bike goes “exactly where you ask it to.”
  • One tester savors how the light handling eases the negotiation of technical singletrack.
  • The smooth ride quality and lack of juddering over chunky terrain impress a reviewer of a build with the ENVE AG25 wheelset upgrade.
  • The Titanium All-Road is SRAM UDH-compatible and has a threaded bottom bracket.
  • The frame can fit tires up to 50mm wide in 700c or up to 2.25” in 650b.

6 reasons not to buy

  • A tester of the stock build bemoans how the poor-quality components detract from the benefits of the premium frame.
  • One expert finds the long, slack, and tall frame geometry to be cumbersome, hindering speed on faster sections of gravel and tarmac, and recommends sizing down to mitigate this.
  • This is a heavy bike in its stock configuration, weighing 23.4lb in size Large.
  • One tester loses confidence in the “unreliable” stopping power of the stock State hybrid-hydraulic disc brakes.
  • The stock rims have a narrow internal width of just 19mm, reducing the profile and thus the comfort and performance of the mounted tires.
  • The frameset lacks many of the bag, rack, and accessory mounts typically expected on bikepacking/adventure bikes.

Bottom line

State Bicycle Co.’s Titanium All-Road is an adventure gravel bike that’s customizable at check-out or available as a frameset. The two expert testers reach distinctly different conclusions. One is disappointed by the base setup's stock kit and how it hinders the frameset's performance. This tester also dislikes the long, tall geometry. The reviewer of the upgraded ENVE wheelset and SRAM Apex/GX AXS mullet drivetrain loves the bike, geo, and handling. Overall, the Titanium All-Road seems dependent on upgrades to maximise its value and performance, and could do with more mounts for racks and accessories, but is very aggressively priced.

The State Titanium All-Road Is an Admirable but Flawed Attempt to Build a Titanium Gravel Bike for the Masses

The State Bicycle Co. Titanium All-Road has the potential to be a standout, budget-friendly titanium bike, but the proprietary components come up short, leaving the complete build feeling underwhelming… extracting the bike’s full potential will require additional investment.

State Bicycle Co. Titanium All-Road Long-Term Review

All in all, State’s All-Road Ti is a capable and affordable entry point into an often mystified material that allows the user to stretch their dollar and performance in ways that are all too uncommon nowadays.
