The Greater Allegheny Passage is not your average rails to trail bike route, it is one of the prestigous Rail Trail Hall of Fame tours designated by the Rails Trails Conservancy. This elite trail should be on your bucket list with the route covering 150 miles of car-free trail with 20 bridges, 5 tunnels, and a .4 mile long viaduct all between Pittsburgh, PA. and Cumberland, MD.

Pedal through urban Pittsburgh along the riverbanks to discover the city’s renaissance from its smokey past as a mecca of coal, iron and steel industries. Take note of the remnants marking its industrial past, which becomes evident along the outskirts of the city. The trail leads through historic coal patch towns into the very green and lush beauty that is the Laurel Highlands Mountain region of Pennsylvania.

To fully appreciate the recreational and cultural wonders of this mountain region, a day off your bike is planned for you to enjoy excursions such as visiting Frank Lloyd Wrights Fallingwater which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, or experience the thrill of a white water rafting adventure on the Youghiogheny River, or hike the scenic water falls near Ohiopyle in the Laurel Mountains of Pennsylvania.

The ride continues through Meyerdale, the maple capital of the state, and the final day will have you on an exhilarating downhill ride into Cumberland, MD crossing the Eastern Continental Divide and riding through the Big Savage Tunnel completed in 1912. This is truely a fantastic day of riding with lots to see and experience and one you won’t soon forget.

Additional departure dates are offered for this tour. Please see the tour official website and/or email/call reservation information provided.
