Cap to GAP Gravel Trail Adventure

Washington DC
Charity Ride, Gravel Grinder, Recreational, Tour

This week-long ride follows the wild, historic and unpaved routes of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal (C&O) and the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) from Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh, PA. The more rugged C&O trail – which is actually a National Park – traces the twists and turns of the mighty Potomac River for 200 miles of dirt riding, all the way to our stop in Cumberland, MD.

After a volunteer day with a nearby Fuller Center partner, riders will transition to the GAP bike trail which winds for 150 miles through the heart of Appalachia on crushed limestone until the final destination of Pittsburgh, PA.

What to expect on the Cap to GAP Adventure:

-7 days of crushed gravel and dirt trail riding, averaging about 50 miles per day
-One volunteer day in a community along the way
-Start the ride in our nation’s capital
-Avoid the traffic by riding mostly on trails
-Finish the ride at the trail terminus in the Steel City!

Several of our past riders have requested a Great Allegheny Passage / C&O Canal route over the years. After a long absence, the GAP is back for 2026!

Not only is this a beautiful route, but it’s also an opportunity that connects your riding and fundraising to the families we serve with a volunteer day along the way.

While the cycling attracts many people to our events, most participants quickly learn they’re part of something far grander than just a ride.

Join us to learn why!
