West Wicomico Heritage Day returns this September, offering fun activities for the whole family.
The Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism event, set for Sept. 23, features the 22nd annual West Wicomico Heritage Bike Tour, the Historians Scavenger Hunt and other activities at Pemberton Historical Park.
Participants in the bike tour, which takes off from Pemberton Historical Park, can choose from 32-, 50-, and 62-mile routes that wind through western Wicomico County. The event lasts from 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with show and go from 7-8:30 a.m.
Registration is open now. Sign up by Sept. 4 to guarantee an event shirt. The early registration fees are $35 for adults, $20 for children ages 8-18 and free for children 7 and under (no shirt included). After Aug. 25, the rates for participants ages 8 and older increase by $5.
Participants must wear helmets, and in addition to the shirt if registered by the deadline, they will each receive a map and cue sheet. Rest areas will also be available, along with SAG, or Support and Gear, service.
For the Historians Scavenger Hunt, teams of up to five will explore historical sites in Pemberton Historical Park, completing tasks and challenges. Participants will sign up on-site, and the cost is $5 per group. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the scavenger hunt begins at 11 a.m.
There will also be tours of Pemberton Hall from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for $5 per person and History Trail guided tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The day is presented in partnership with the Whitehaven Heritage Association and the Pemberton Hall Foundation. Proceeds go directly toward historical preservation of Pemberton Historical Park and the Whitehaven Schoolhouse as well as numerous environmental education programs offered to Wicomico County children and families.
