- One reviewer felt the ‘smoothed carbon’ look was old-school.
Bottom line
Orro uses a frame material known as ‘Spread Tow Carbon’, in which fibres are interwoven to give the Gold’s surface a signature ‘chequerboard’ appearance. This bike hasn’t been tested to aerodynamic perfection in a secretive defense-force facility usually reserved for sub-light-speed experimental craft. As a result, it looks less like a selection of knives and more like a traditional… bike. But don’t be fooled by the Gold’s looks or low price. The Shimano Ultegra R8000 mechanical groupset was compared, by experts, to much higher-level systems at astronomical prices. While comfortable enough for long-distance rides, expert testers felt that the Gold’s geometry leaned more toward ‘race’ than ‘endurance’. At an exceedingly reasonable price, the Gold offers you a rig that achieves the low weight and high speeds needed to compete with the best of them.Expert Reviews
