Join us for the May Days Kids Bike Race!
5-8yrs Race #2
- Distance: 1.3km = 1 Lap
- Race Time: 10:30am
- Age: 5-8 years old
- Requirement: Participants must be able to ride 1.3km independently. No run bikes, training wheels, mobility aids or participants who require support.
- Marshalling Area located on McAllister Ave: Riders must gather in the Marshalling Area a minimum of 15 minutes prior to race time
- Race Route: Start on Shaughnessy St at McAllister Ave, ride north to follow parade route. Turn right on Elgin Ave, right on Mary Hill Rd, right on Wilson Ave, right on Shaughnessy St, finish line at McAllister Ave.
- Cost: Free
NOTE: Participants must supply their own bike, helmet and ensure their ride is in good working order prior to arrival.
Races will not be timed and no placings will be presented.
Rider Checklist:
- All bikes must be in good working order and the proper size for participant safety. Ensure handlebars are tight, seat is adjusted, tires are inflated, chain is secure, and brakes work quickly and effectively.
- Wear weather-appropriate athletic attire and close-toed shoes.
- Check helmet for any damage and secure chin strap.
- Secure/Leave loose personal belongings with parents/guardians.
Reminders:
- Plan extra transportation time to park/walk/ride to Marshalling Area; review road closure and detour routes.
- No pets, skateboards, wagons, in-line skates or roller skis permitted on the course.
- All community members are expected to demonstrate respect and sportsmanship behaviour.
- Safety before speed. Participants should be aware and race with care.
Marshalling Area:
- Located on McAllister Ave between Shaughnessy St and Mary Hill Rd.
- Assemble in the designated event area and listen for race announcements.
- Belongings left unattended in the Marshalling Area will not be watched or secure; No bag check, please leave valuables at home.
Race Details:
- Start & Finish line on Shaughnessy St at McAllister Ave.
- Riders follow lead cyclist for 1.3km (1 lap of race course)
- After crossing the finish line, participants will be ushered off the course and congregate at the Shaughnessy Pop-up Park space to reunite with parents/guardians.
