Summary of Reviews
We have read all expert and user reviews on the Orro FE Street. In summary, this is what cyclists think.
11 reasons to buy
- Double-butted chromoly tubing made for a frame that’s light and strong.
- 30mm deep aero rims were stiff and robust on city streets.
- Quality Orro factory-brand components were low-cost and high quality.
- The 48/18t gear ratio is well-suited to the stop-and-go of urban commutes.
- A flip-flop rear hub offers an option for both fixed gear and singlespeed riders.
- Mid-width Duro Street 25c tires compromise offered both resilience and agility.
- Bull-horns pitch weight forward on climbs and provide multiple ride positions.
- The FE street came in a wide range of sizes: XS, S, M, L and XL.
- Faux leather saddle and bar-tape were subtly color-matched to tan-wall tires.
- Orro’s innovative rear-light seat-clamp came standard on the FE Street.
- Cables and frame detailing are reflective to enhance night-time visibility.
2 reasons not to buy
- You may have to hunt a little, to find an Orro FE in your size.
- Unpretentious bikes like the FE hold less cachet with some of the hardcore fixie crowd.
Bottom line
Orro’s FE Street is definitely the simplest and most affordable bike in their fleet of high-end rigs. Many of the FE Street’s components are sourced or machined from Orro’s own workshop. This means that the cost is kept low, while quality can be relied upon. High-flange, sealed hubs are coupled with deep aero rims. A flip-flop hub comes standard, with an 18 tooth freewheel on one side and an 18 tooth fixed gear cog on the other. The aesthetic is more ‘sophisticated’ than flashy, with a faux brown-leather and tan theme applied to the saddle, griptape and tires. There are reflective decals on the modest black paintwork and cables, for nighttime visibility. The geometry and 48/18 ratio cater to stop-start city riding and a more-casual, less-racy approach. Due to high popularity and relatively low production numbers, you might have to fossick for an Orro FE in your size. However, once unearthed, this is a simple city bike that won’t plague you with endless mechanical, upgrade and safety issues that are unavoidable when you buy a bottom-rung, big-box, no-name ‘fixie’ from one of the online Big Boys.Expert Reviews
