NYC Half Century
Distance: The NYC Half Century features a 10 mile family ride, a 35 mile route, and 50 mile half century route. You will pick which route you’d like to ride during registration but can switch afterwards — however, it will affect which time you start. See “arrival” below for details. The route will be released the week before the ride, with more detail coming soon! Expect some of the NYC’s Century’s greatest hits, TA advocacy wins, new bike lanes and greenways, and more!
Ride Marshals: There will be ride marshals along the route, identifiable by their orange vests. They can assist you with minor bike issues or repairs. However, please be aware that ride marshals do not carry extra supplies, so make sure you bring extra tubes or any other supplies you think you may need.
Road Closures: The NYC Half Century does not have any road closures. Riders should be prepared to ride confidently alongside traffic.
Support and Gear (SAG): There will be limited SAG on the route. The SAG vehicle will pick up riders and return them only to the finish area. Riders who cannot complete the ride, but are located within walking distance to a train or bus stop will be asked to use public transit.
Pacing: 35-milers will need to ride at approximately 10 mph. 50-milers should be riding at 12 mph. Please note: The amount of time you spend at a rest area is important! Be sure to consult the rest area closing times on your cue sheet to make sure you can reach the next stop before it closes.
Waves: Riders will be released in waves. Waves will be assigned closer to the event. When possible, purchase your tickets together to ensure you and your friends/family depart in the same wave. VIP ticket holders are guaranteed the first wave for their mileage choice.
About the Ride: The NYC Half Century is produced by Transportation Alternatives and benefits our work advocating for safer streets for all New Yorkers. This is a special 50th Anniversary ride that is inspired by the legendary NYC Century.
