Route Descriptions
Our signature route (same as 2017) is a breathtakingly beautiful 100 mile journey with a challenging ten thousand ft. gain! You’ll enjoy miles of forested climbs, ridge top vistas, cool redwood canyons and bucolic coastal agricultural lands. This route provides what some call “cycling perfection” with 7 generously supported and well placed Rest Stops, the pleasant coastal towns of La Honda, San Gregorio and Pescadero, a quick tour out past Pigeon Pt Lighthouse and the stunning climbs on Page Mill, upper Alpine/Joaquin and Tunitas Creek. There are three “bail-out” options to test your tenacity, and again this year, we’ll have a Fun Finish at our out-of-the-way site at Foothill College to reward your resolve! Rider Cap: 500
Also returning from 2017, our 72 mile route is truly stunning with no bail-outs; it’s a real test of any cyclist! As with the 100 milers, you’ll ascend Moody and Page Mill, cross Skyline to descend the spectacular West Alpine Rd to the famous Rest Stop in La Honda. You’ll then climb over Haskins Hill and descend through cool redwoods out to Puente in Pescadero for your third stop before turning north via Stage Rd. Leave the coast and take a quick break at the Bike Hut stop to get refueled and ready before you ascend Tunitas Creek Rd and the nearly 2000 ft. gain through miles of second growth redwoods up to Skyline. We have your sixth and last Rest Stop at our shaded site at The Sequoias Retirement Community, 10 miles north of the Fun Finish at Foothill College! Rider Cap: 300
TWO NEW ROUTES for 2018!
We had to cut last years “Mixed-Terrain” route at the last minute due to the wet winter’s damage in Pescadero Creek Park, so we’re trying again! The exact ~67 mile route is still in flux, but the basic route will include ~8 miles of “Mix-T” riding on upper (dirt) Alpine Rd to Page Mill, and Skyline, Purisima Creek Trail up to Skyline and maybe a few “warm-up” sections before the first Rest Stop. You’ll need your proficient unpaved road handling skills and maybe a “gravel grinder” bike with 28’s or wider so leave your skinny 23’s at home for this challenging and unique ride. You’ll have 6 Rest Stops, and the two longer “Mix-T” sections are climbs mostly on wider fire/access roads, not narrow trails. The rest of this route is on good ol’ tarmac shared with cars, and really beautiful cycling! Rider Cap: 49
Last year’s short/easy route was….neither, so we’ve dialed it back just a pinch to a more palatable 44 miles and 4460 ft. gain. You’ll depart from Foothill College, climb Moody, descend Page Mill, take Arastradero west to Alpine; and then turn north. This new route takes a pleasant tour of the Portola Valley/Westridge area before your first Rest Stop at The Sequoias Retirement Community, 12 miles out. You’ll then travel north through beautiful downtown Woodside and climb up into and through Huddart County Park before rejoining Kings Mountain Road all the way up to Skyline at just over 2000 ft. After your well-deserved Ridge-top Rest Stop, just ahead of the longer riders, you’ll return back down Kings Mtn. then to The Sequoias Stop and (mostly) the same way you came out, back to the Fun Finish at Foothill College! Rider Cap: 151
