Burlington Velo Club announces 6th Annual Double Down 2 the Beach 200 Mile Bike Ride.

2017 ride to end at Wrightsville Beach on the Atlantic Ocean after grueling 200+ mile ride in one day.

Burlington, NC, January 27, 2017: The Burlington Velo Club (BVC) a cycling enthusiast organization based in Burlington, NC, will once again host the “Annual Double Down 2 the Beach” (DD2tB) cycling event May 20, 2017. Proceeds from the event fund several scholarships the BVC gives out every year to area students who qualify.
Now in it’s sixth year the DD2tB is a cycling trek along the back roads and by-ways of North Carolina and encompasses 200+ miles as the route (yet to be determined) winds it’s way to the Atlantic Ocean. The finish line, which changes location each year, will be in Wrightsville Beach, NC, a suburb of Wilmington, NC.
Cyclists from as far away as Iowa come each year to participate in the ride, which naturally develops, into three to four groups of riders with each group paced at different speeds. Rest stops along the way (approximately every 30-40 miles) allow the cyclists to rest and replenish their water and nutrition before starting the next leg of the trip with a lunch provided at approximately the 100-mile mark.
To support the riders the BVC provides four Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles, which carry each group of riders’ personal effects as well as water and are able to assist any rider who encounters mechanical or physical difficulties.
Cyclists wishing to take part in this years DD2tB can join the event’s Facebook Group at www.facebook.com/groups/DoubleDown2TheBeach to stay current on news and information as it develops, or visit the event website at www.DD2tB.org.
